Midwifery department is one of front runner department in midwifery education dedicated to  produce competent, compassionate, respectful, and caring midwives who can provide holistic sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent and youth health (SRMNCAYH) services at community and health facility levels with focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Since its establishment 1999 E.C. the department has grown as a center of excellence and has two programs under the department   such as BSc in midwifery and MSc in clinical midwifery.

Both programs in the department emphasis on evidence based practice to equip midwives with a complex mix of knowledge, skill, attitudes, and preparing competent graduate midwives to their expected professional roles in the broader society.

The Nursing and Midwifery Academic and Service Directorate was established in April 2024 based on the new structure; it oversees Nursing and Midwifery education and services. There are two first degree and five second degree programs under the directorate, as well as more than thirty service desks holding more than 450 nurses and midwifes. Nursing and Midwifery Academic and Service is managed by one director, one deputy director, and two heads of training sections, and they are currently working to improve the quality and effectiveness of education and service by coordinating student training and hospital services

The School of Nursing is one of Ethiopia’s pioneering institutions in nursing education, dedicated to preparing competent, compassionate, and ethical professionals who can meet the nation’s evolving health-care needs. Since its establishment in 1996, the School has grown into a center of excellence, offering two undergraduate programs—Comprehensive Nursing and Psychiatry Nursing—and three postgraduate programs in Adult Health Nursing, Pediatrics and Child Health Nursing, and Emergency and Critical Care Nursing.

Our programs emphasize evidence-based practice, community-focused training, and extensive clinical exposure through strong partnerships with regional hospitals and health centers. Supported by committed faculty, robust curricula, and an environment that promotes research and innovation, the School of Nursing continues to play a transformative role in strengthening Ethiopia’s health workforce and improving the quality of care across the country.
